Women of the US Military, Veterans, Active Service Members, and to our Communities at large:
Many of us lost someone who served, either in combat, in a training accident, a downed C-130 refueling plane, or here at home while active duty, and sadly even through post military suicide. This is the one time of the year when civilians try to understand, try to bear the burden of the costs of war, try to be there for the living by recognizing the dead. Let them.
You may hardly know how to handle it. You may need comfort. The cost of war is high. It is a cost we all must bear, but not alone. Don’t go it alone this weekend.
We all know this. It may be difficult during this time. Please take care. Do not be alone. Go to a VFW, go to the Eagles, visit your American Legion. Go to the Cemetery where others are sitting with their grief. Be there. Be present.
On this memorial weekend, and especially on Memorial Day (Officially May 30), please think of my friend killed in action, Captain Jennifer Harris, USMC KIA 2007 whom I met in 2004 at the Women Marines Association (WMA) Convention.
And, also in the military times newspaper.
